Web of Science is a dynamic platform. The data within WoS is continuously evolving as it undergoes daily updates.
The Journal Impact Factor is derived from the WoS snapshot. It is important to note that the Impact Factor is not calculated based on the live data from WoS. Consequently, discrepancies will always exist between the Predictive Impact Factors we compute and the final Impact Factors determined by Clarivate and published in the Journal Citation Reports.
Changes to the IF Denominator may encompass:
• For journals that have recently been accepted into WoS, there may be a delay in Clarivate indexing all back content.
• Clarivate may revise article categorization, which could lead to an increase or decrease in the number of citeable items.
• The Indexing team consistently monitors for missing content, and we have reduced the number of missing articles from SN journals; however, some journals may still have content that has not been indexed by Clarivate.
Changes to the IF Numerator may include:
• Missing content across all publishers that Clarivate intends to index (particularly content published towards the end of the previous year).
• Clarivate may identify and rectify citations that are either missing or misattributed.
• Clarivate may identify and eliminate duplicate articles.
