There is a common misconception that all medical content is automatically included in PubMed. Due to the stringent selection criteria applied by PubMed databases, acceptance into MEDLINE or PubMed Central (PMC) can be a rigorous process.
An article may be included in PubMed only if at least one of the following conditions is met:
• The article is published in a MEDLINE-indexed journal; or
• The article is published in a journal indexed in PubMed Central (PMC); or
• The article is associated with funding from an NIH-approved grant agency.
Please note that Springer Nature deposits only funded Open Access articles into PubMed Central. Subscription-based content must be self-archived where applicable.
Articles that do not meet any of the above criteria will not be included in PubMed.
