Springer Nature OA article deposition to PMC

Created by Sonal Shukla, Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 2:06 PM by Sonal Shukla

The deposition of Open Access (OA) articles to PubMed Central (PMC) is managed in accordance with the indexing status of the journal.
  • For journals that are fully indexed in PMC, Springer Nature automatically deposits all published articles to PMC.
  • For MEDLINE-indexed journals, Springer Nature automatically deposits all OA articles to PMC.
  • For journals that are not indexed in PMC, Springer Nature deposits OA articles that acknowledge funding from a PMC partner or a funder approved by PMC, in accordance with applicable public access and Open Access policies.

Springer Nature deposits the final published Version of Record (VOR). For journals that publish articles online ahead of print, the final issue version containing the correct pagination is deposited. Accordingly, articles are submitted to PMC only after they have been assigned to an issue and have reached final publication status.

As Open Access articles are not subject to an embargo period, they become publicly available in PMC once the deposited content has been processed by PMC. Please note, however, that there may be a delay of several weeks between publication and appearance in PMC, depending on PMC’s processing timelines.
